Justice for the Palestinians
By Kirya Traber

SAN FRANCISCO--More than 100 attended a July 26 teach-in on the current situation in Palestine featuring Tikva Honig-Parnass and Toufic Haddad. Together, they publish an alternative, Palestine-based magazine, Between the Lines, giving realistic perspectives on the struggle in Palestine.

Their speeches focused on the need to oppose to the U.S.-sponsored "road map," which ultimately denies, like other peace proposals before it, a viable Palestinian state. Tikva, an Israeli, spoke in-depth about the history of Zionism and the establishment of Israel as a watchdog for U.S. imperialism in the Middle East, outlining clearly why the country has never had an interest in giving freedom to the oppressed Palestinians. Toufic, an Palestinian American, spoke about the history of the first Intifada and its resurgence as an important anti-imperialist force today.

At the teach-in, Toufic ended with the insistence that global solidarity is imperative to the survival of the Palestinian struggle for self-determination. Long live the Intifada!
