NEWT GINGRICH loves America so it made him have affairs--at least, according to Newt.
The former House speaker and current 2012 GOP presidential contender has spent a lot of time recently posturing as a spokesman for "conservative values" (no gay marriage or gays in the military, of course).
But the man who spent much of his time in office attacking the poor--including attempting to gut programs that support women and children--has a problem when it comes to his own famous morals--or lack of them.
That's because Gingrich is currently on his third marriage. He infamously moved to divorce his first wife while she was in the hospital recovering from cancer surgery. And he admits that he had an affair with his now- wife while still married to his second.
As many have asked, why should Gingrich be allowed to have three marriages, when lesbians and gays can't even have one?
In the ramping up of his fledgling presidential campaign, Gingrich will likely have to answer such questions. And now, he's come up with a novel excuse. Love for America made him do it.
According to Gawker.com, Gingrich
...sat down with the Christian Broadcasting Network to discuss such past indiscretions as cheating on his two previous wives with their eventual successors. And Gingrich, at least "partially," blamed his conduct during these episodes on his love for America. Wait, what?
He tells CBN's David Brody that "there's no question at times of my life, partially driven by how passionately I felt about this country, that I worked far too hard and things happened in my life that were not appropriate."
